What the work actually is
You are training and checking AI models. In practice that means a rotating mix of tasks rather than one repetitive job:
- Rating and ranking AI generated responses for accuracy and helpfulness
- Writing prompts designed to test where a model breaks
- Fact checking model output against real sources
- Specialist work in coding, mathematics, law, medicine or finance if you qualify
- Language and cultural relevance work, where Indian English and regional knowledge genuinely count in your favour
The last one is worth sitting with. A lot of Indian applicants assume their location is a disadvantage. For culturally specific projects it is the qualification.
What Outlier actually pays

This is where most applications end. Outlier’s qualification tests are longer and harder than people expect, and there is no way around that. Some assessments take one to two hours. - Set aside a proper block of time. Attempting an assessment in ten minute chunks between other things is how people fail.

Red flags that are not Outlier
Outlier is a real company and it never charges you to apply.
