Short answer: no. DataAnnotation.tech does not accept applicants from India. As of August 2026 it hires only in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. Apply from an Indian IP address and you will be stopped at the location step. The better news is that Outlier, Appen, Clickworker and TELUS Digital all do accept Indians right now.
If you have spent the last week watching videos titled “Earn ₹4,000 Per Day With DataAnnotation, No Skills Needed”, this article is going to be mildly annoying and quite useful. Let us get the bad part over with first.
So can Indians join DataAnnotation.tech or not?
Not currently. DataAnnotation restricts signups to six countries: the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. India is not on that list and has never been on it.
The company does not publish its eligible country list anywhere obvious, which is exactly why so much confusion exists. You only discover the restriction after you have created an account, sat through a long assessment, and reached the part where they ask where you live. Plenty of people have burned two hours on the writing test before finding out.
A word on the workarounds, since somebody always asks. Using a VPN to appear American will get you through signup and then fail at payment, because the payout runs through a US payment processor that wants tax details matching a real US person. You will have done the work and you will not get paid. That is a worse outcome than being rejected on day one.
Why does DataAnnotation block India?
It is not a comment on Indian talent. The restriction is about money movement and compliance, not ability.
Platforms that pay contributors directly have to handle tax forms, identity checks and cross border payouts in every country they operate in. Each new country means more paperwork, more compliance risk and a different payment rail. Some companies decide that six English speaking countries with simple banking is enough, and they stop there. DataAnnotation is one of those.
Other companies made the opposite choice and built for the whole world. Those are the ones worth your time.

What about Toloka, MTurk, Remotasks and Prolific?
This section exists because roughly nine out of ten “best earning sites” listicles you will find are quietly out of date, and several of them are recommending platforms that no longer accept you.
- Toloka folded its crowd platform into Mindrift in July 2026. If a blog is still telling you to sign up for Toloka, that blog has not been updated in over a year.
- Amazon Mechanical Turk is closing to new joiners as of July 2026. Indian workers had a rough time on MTurk anyway, since payouts to India were restricted to Amazon gift cards for years.
- Remotasks is still online, but new signups from India have been closed. Existing Indian contributors kept their accounts. If you do not already have one, this door is shut.
- Prolific is limited to mostly OECD countries. India is not supported, and no amount of profile tweaking changes that.
None of this means AI training work is dead for Indians. It means the list of real options is shorter and more specific than the internet suggests.
Toh sabse pehle kaunsa platform try karein?
If you want one recommendation rather than a menu, start with Outlier AI. It accepts Indian applicants, it pays weekly, and it supports AirTM alongside PayPal, which genuinely matters because AirTM was built for exactly the markets where PayPal gets awkward.
Apply to Clickworker as your second. It is now part of LXT, the task volume is decent, and the barrier to entry is lower than Outlier’s. Think of it as the place you build a rhythm while you wait for better paying projects elsewhere.
Apply to all four if you like. There is no rule against it and no platform gives you enough consistent work to fill a week on its own. Most people who earn steadily from this are running two or three accounts in parallel, which is the part the ₹4,000 per day videos never mention.
How much can you actually earn from India?
Here is where most articles start inventing numbers, so let us be careful. Advertised rates on these platforms are usually quoted in US dollars and are set per project, not per country. What varies is which projects you get access to.
Realistic expectations for someone starting from India with good written English:
- Your first month is mostly assessments and waiting. Treat early earnings as close to zero.
- Work arrives in bursts. A good week can be followed by a dead fortnight with no explanation.
- Specialist skills change everything. Coding, mathematics, law and medicine projects pay several times what general rating tasks pay.
- This is supplementary income, not a salary replacement, unless you are unusually consistent and land a specialist queue.
