Virtual Assistant Jobs Remote: What India Postings Pay

An Indian woman working on her laptop at home, searching for virtual assistant jobs remote.

Virtual assistant jobs remote from India are real, but the pay listed for India based applicants on 2 October 2026 ran from Rs 5,000 to about Rs 60,000 a month, not the dollar hourly rates the ranking pages quote. Those figures are mostly what clients pay agencies. The worker’s share is a fraction of it.

On this page: the rupee pay listed on remote VA postings read on 2 October 2026, set against what agencies charge US clients for the same assistant, the Upwork fee arithmetic, and what agency assistants report on Glassdoor.

Think you already know this? Five questions, one minute.

Every answer is on this page. Answer from what you know now; the page fills in the rest.

  1. 1. What average monthly virtual assistant salary does Indeed India report?

  2. 2. According to Zedtreeo’s own cost guide, what is its $6 an hour starting rate?

  3. 3. What service fee does Upwork charge freelancers?

  4. 4. What rating do Wishup virtual assistants give the company on Glassdoor India?

  5. 5. What does the Department of Posts advisory say about money from job candidates?

Search this phrase and you get job boards, an agency careers page and listicles promising dollar rates. Nobody shows what an Indian applicant is actually offered. So we read the listings on the day, wrote down every rupee figure, and put them next to what the same agencies charge their clients. The gap is the story.

What do remote virtual assistant jobs pay India based applicants?

Across two searches on SimplyHired India and the India page of DailyRemote, we read 37 listings on 2 October 2026. Pay was shown on 26 of them. Leaving out the ones that were really telecalling or office admin roles with the word assistant in the title, here is what remote VA style work listed:

The middle of that range, Rs 15,000 to Rs 45,000, matches the salary aggregators. Indeed India’s salary page puts the average virtual assistant salary at Rs 20,401 a month, though from only seven reported salaries. The outliers are worth noticing at both ends. One listing for a personal assistant to a director offered Rs 3,000 a month, which is not a salary so much as a rounding error. The Porch listing, at roughly Rs 89,000 to Rs 1,25,000 a month, shows that a US company hiring directly in India does pay more, and such listings are rare.

Why do ranking pages quote dollar hourly rates?

Because they are quoting the client side of the market. An agency that places Indian assistants with US founders publishes what the founder pays, and the founder’s price includes recruitment, training, a manager, replacement guarantees and the agency’s margin. The Zedtreeo cost guide says this outright: its $6 an hour starting rate is the all in delivered cost, not the candidate’s personal compensation.

Put plainly: Wishup’s own pricing page showed $1,999 a month for its Prime VA plan on 2 October 2026, about Rs 1,92,000. Its virtual assistants report an average base of Rs 41,000 a month on Glassdoor India. That is roughly a fifth. We cannot tell which plan, or how many hours, each reported salary sits on, and self reported pay is never a precise number, so treat the ratio as an order of magnitude. But it explains why the dollar figures in the listicles never turn up in an Indian offer letter.

None of this makes agency work a bad deal. A salaried agency job carries a fixed monthly payment, training and clients found for you. It just pays an Indian salary, not an American hourly rate.

Agency job, direct client or Upwork: which route pays what?

There are three honest routes in, and they trade money against certainty.

Hands typing on a laptop under a desk lamp at night, the usual hours for virtual assistant jobs remote.
Many agency VA roles from India follow US client hours, which means evenings and nights here.

Agency employer. Wishup and similar companies hire salaried assistants in India to work for overseas clients, often on US hours. Reported base pay sits around Rs 32,000 to Rs 54,000 a month, per the Glassdoor data above, with the agency carrying the client risk.

A company hiring directly. Listings like the Porch one pay the most, but they are few, they want experience, and they compete with every applicant in the country. Our guide to finding remote jobs on LinkedIn from India covers how to surface these before the board aggregators do.

Freelancing on Upwork. The $7 to $10 an hour freelance listing above is typical of entry level VA contracts. Upwork charges freelancers a variable service fee of 0 to 15 percent, shown before you accept a contract, according to its own fee explainer. Worked example: 80 billed hours at $8, with a 10 percent fee, leaves $576, about Rs 55,000 at Rs 96 to the dollar, before bank charges and tax. The catch is the 80 hours: a new profile rarely gets them in month one. Our account of how Indians actually land a first Upwork client is the realistic version.

Seedha bolein toh: salary chahiye toh agency, zyada paisa aur zyada risk chahiye toh freelance. Both are legitimate. Neither involves paying anyone to get started.

What do people working these jobs report?

We looked for accounts from Indians who have done agency VA work. The most complete public record is Glassdoor India’s page for Wishup virtual assistants, which shows a 3.5 out of 5 rating across 82 reviews, with 50 percent saying they would recommend it to a friend. Most reviews sit behind a sign in, so we read only the three shown publicly and Glassdoor’s own summary of the rest; we did not sign in. These are what reviewers report, not a verdict on the company.

A former assistant in New Delhi, reviewing on 1 June 2026, rated it 4 and called it fine as a temporary job with no growth and a weak appraisal. A former assistant in Lucknow, on 3 April 2026, rated it 1 and said remote work was the only good part. A former assistant in Mumbai, on 8 December 2025, rated it 1 and complained about management, including being pushed to like the founders’ social posts. Glassdoor’s summary of the remaining Wishup VA reviews lists permanent work from home and work life balance among the pros, and salary arriving on the 10th of the month and weak job security among the cons.

Where the accounts agree with the official picture: the work is real, it is salaried, and it is remote. Where they add something the pricing pages do not: growth is slow, and the job can end when a client leaves. Three visible reviews out of 82 is a thin sample, and the two one star reviews may not represent the 50 percent who would recommend it.

VA job ke naam par fee maangi toh?

Then it is not a VA job. The fake version of this role arrives on WhatsApp or Telegram, skips the interview, and asks for a registration, training or “ID activation” fee. Genuine employers do not charge candidates, a point government recruiters repeat in their own warnings, such as the Department of Posts advisory on fake job rackets, which says it never asks for money from candidates. The nine signs of a part time job scam apply word for word to fake VA offers, and the Telegram task scam often opens with an “assistant” title.

What do you need before applying for remote VA work?

Less than the courses selling VA certificates suggest, more than a smartphone. The listings we read asked, in practice, for four things: written English good enough to draft a client email without help, comfort with Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 and a calendar tool, a laptop and a backup internet connection, and willingness to work some US or UK hours. Our page on the English level online work actually needs sets a usable bar, and night shift work from home jobs covers what US hours do to a week.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a remote virtual assistant earn in India?

Listings read on 2 October 2026 offered Rs 5,000 to about Rs 60,000 a month, with most between Rs 15,000 and Rs 45,000. Indeed India’s salary page puts the average at Rs 20,401 a month. Rare direct hires by US companies listed more.

Kya virtual assistant job ke liye degree zaroori hai?

Listings mein degree se zyada English writing, Google Workspace ya Microsoft 365 aur calendar tools ka kaam, aur US hours mein kaam karne ki taiyari maangi gayi. Kuch agencies graduate maangti hain, sab nahi.

Are the dollar hourly VA rates online real for Indians?

They are real prices, but mostly what clients pay agencies. An agency’s own cost guide says its hourly rate is the all in client cost, not the assistant’s pay. Indian hires see a monthly rupee salary.

Is Upwork a better route than an agency for VA work?

It can pay more per hour, but Upwork takes a variable fee of 0 to 15 percent and hours are not guaranteed. An agency pays less but pays every month. Which suits depends on how much income uncertainty a person can carry.

VA job ke liye registration fee dena safe hai?

Nahi. Genuine employers candidates se fee nahi lete. Fee maangna hi sabse bada sign hai ki offer fake hai. Paisa jaa chuka hai toh 1930 par turant call kijiye.

Do remote VA jobs from India involve night shifts?

Often. Many agency roles serve US or UK clients and list US time zone overlap, which means evening or night hours in India. Some listings, such as the India only admin roles, work Indian hours.
