Indeed work from home jobs in India are free to apply for, and Indeed says it never offers anyone a job through a phone call, a text message, WhatsApp or Telegram. Genuine remote listings do exist, mostly in support, sales and back office roles. The fake ones give themselves away the moment somebody asks you to pay.

Are the work from home jobs on Indeed India real?

Most of them are. Indeed is an aggregator, so it pulls vacancies from company career pages, applicant tracking systems and direct employer postings, and in India that produces a genuine pool of remote and hybrid roles. What it does not produce is a vetted pool. Indeed’s own Terms of Service say the company “cannot guarantee, and disclaims all liability for, the identity of any Employer or User”. That sentence is worth reading twice, because almost every guide on this subject leaves it out.

So the useful question was never whether Indeed is real. It is whether the particular listing in front of you is. Ek listing genuine hai ya nahi, yeh check karna mushkil nahi hai, bas do minute aur thoda dhyaan chahiye.

Why does Indeed look more sponsored than it used to?

Because it is, and the date is on the record. On 31 March 2026 Indeed changed how free listings reach the results page. Under its single source feed policy, jobs sent to Indeed through a single source XML or API feed are “visible only when sponsored”, which in practice means the employer pays or the vacancy does not appear. Feeds from applicant tracking systems with no Indeed integration are not affected. A second milestone falls on 31 December 2026, when jobs reaching Indeed through ad agency multisource feeds stop being visible as well. We checked the policy page on 12 September 2026.

The consequence is simple and slightly uncomfortable. Results now lean towards employers who spend money on recruitment advertising. Large companies with hiring budgets qualify. So do the fee collecting placement consultancies, which have always treated advertising as a cost of doing business. A high position on the results page is a budget signal, not a quality signal.

Does the Verified badge mean Indeed checked the employer?

No, and this is the point where the standard advice on this subject is not merely thin but wrong. Guides tell readers to look for the verified badge and relax when they find it. Indeed’s Terms of Service say the opposite in plain words: “Indeed does not guarantee the accuracy of any label or badge that is added to Employer names or Job Ads.” The same document repeats the disclaimer for labels on job ads at section B.6.7. The badge is a convenience feature. It is not an audit, and treating it as one is how careful people get caught.

The check that does work is free and takes a minute. Open the employer’s own careers page and find the same role there, then cross check the recruiter’s name against the company, the same way you would on LinkedIn. If the vacancy exists in exactly one place on the internet and the contact is a personal email address, you have your answer.

What do applicants who chased these listings actually report?

We read 16 complaints filed against listings and callers trading on the Indeed name on ConsumerComplaints.in, dated January 2018 to July 2022, together with three recent threads in the r/developersIndia forum. Read all of it as testimony rather than evidence. These are accounts by people who say this happened to them, not findings by a regulator or a court, and no platform is being accused of anything here.

The 16 complaints follow one shape with very little variation. A phone call the person did not initiate. A registration fee of around Rs 2,999, described as refundable. A second demand, usually Rs 8,999 or Rs 9,000, for document verification. Then refusal when a refund is asked for. The largest single amount in that set is Rs 1.2 lakh, in two complaints from January 2018, and the smallest is Rs 1,500 in October 2021. The most recent entry on that page is July 2022, so read the amounts as a pattern rather than a current price list.

In a July 2026 thread, a jobseeker described a recruitment email that led to an assessment link, which then required paying for a certification before the assessment could be attempted. They stopped and verified instead of paying. Two other people in the same thread said they received the identical email, one of them in early September 2026, which is the same week this page was written. A fourth commenter described the offline version of the same trick: an in person round at a real looking office, a refundable test fee afterwards, and a worthless offer letter at the end.

A December 2025 thread in the same forum tracks a fake internship offer that asked for an enrolment fee. The interesting part is the tail of replies running through the following months, in which person after person reports the same email arriving under a rotating set of nearly identical company names. Four or five variants appear in the comments. The template never changes, only the letterhead, which tells you the operation costs almost nothing to rebrand and therefore will not stop on its own.

One account cuts the other way and it belongs here too. In August 2026 a developer posted about a recruiter call from Indeed itself, for a software engineering role at the company, and the thread that followed argued about salary bands and work culture rather than fraud. Indeed does recruit in India for its own positions. Not every unexpected call is a con, which is exactly why the fee test matters more than the vibe test.

Where the accounts and the official guidance agree: nobody legitimate ever asks a candidate for money. Where they pull apart: Indeed’s guidance reads as though the danger arrives as a message you can delete, while most of these accounts begin with a phone call to a number the person had published on a job portal. If the contact details on your resume are public, assume the calls are coming, and read what the worst version of one of these offers actually wants before you take the next one.

Indeed par fake listing kaise pehchane?

Six checks, and none of them needs a subscription. Har listing par yeh cheezein dekh lijiye, do minute se zyada nahi lagte.

• Any fee at all. Registration, verification, certification, training kit, laptop deposit, security deposit. There is no legitimate version of this. Indeed is free for jobseekers and so is every real employer’s hiring process.
• The email domain. A company writes to you from its own domain. An address ending in gmail.com is a person, not a payroll.
• The move off platform. The instant the conversation becomes “continue on WhatsApp”, the record of what was promised stops existing.
• The pay against the work. Rs 30,000 a month for two hours a day of copy and paste is not a job offer. It is the opening line of an investment scam that has not introduced itself yet.
• The same role on the company’s own site. A firm hiring forty remote executives has the vacancy on its careers page. If the only trace of the job anywhere is this one listing, call the company’s switchboard and ask.
• Documents requested too early. PAN, Aadhaar and bank details belong in onboarding, after a written offer you have read. Never in an application form.

If a listing fails even one of those, close the tab. Genuine ones do not require you to argue with yourself about whether they are genuine. The same reasoning carries across part time remote work generally, where the fee ask remains the most reliable dividing line there is.

How do you report a fake listing, and does it achieve anything?

On Indeed itself, open the job post, scroll to the bottom and use the Report job option, choosing the fake job category when the vacancy does not appear to exist at all. It will not get your afternoon back, but it is the only action that takes the listing out of the path of the next person. Indeed also publishes safe job search guidelines worth a single read.

Which remote roles on Indeed are actually worth applying to?

The categories that consistently hold real vacancies are the unglamorous ones: customer and chat support, inside sales, collections, medical coding and billing, recruitment coordination, and content work. These are jobs, with interviews and notice periods attached. What almost never holds up is the listing that promises money with no role attached.
